Even the finest perfume can disappoint if it is applied the wrong way. Here are the most common mistakes and how to fix them.
- Rubbing your wrists. Friction warms and speeds up the top notes. Just let it dry.
- Spraying on dry skin. Moisturise first; perfume clings to hydrated skin.
- Only spraying skin. Fabric holds scent longer; spray clothes too, from about 15 cm.
- Too many sprays. Two to four are enough for most eau de parfums.
- Spraying hair with alcohol perfume. Use a hair mist instead.
- Keeping perfume in the bathroom or car. Heat and light damage fragrance.
- Judging too fast. Wait 20 minutes for the heart and base to appear.
